Cymbalta is a prescriptive drug offered for high depression and generalized anxiety disorders also known as GAD. The drug is a commercial name given to the actual drug name Duloxetine which is a serotonin-nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor also known as SNRI. The product is manufactured and marketed by the global pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. Cymbalta has been acceded to be prescribed for pains due to osteoarthritis and skeletal muscles.
Cymbalta was first created by a team well known pharmaceutical researchers under Eli Lilly in 1986. The patent to the drug was initially admitted in the year 1990. However, there have been quite lot of controversies to the use of Cymbalta for the prescriptions provided. Duloxetine had initially been given a dosage of 20 mg/day to the patients who did not show the required results. Later the dosage was increased to a maximum 120 mg/day which led to the increase in the liver toxicity and also increase in high blood pressures. This resulted in the irregularities in the QT interval prolongations which is the monitoring of the blood ventricles of the heart in the body. Later it was found that the use of Duloxetine hydrochloride in the presence of ethanol resulted in the drastic increase in the effect of ethanol on the liver. This showed that the QT intervals were not affected by the drug. And it was finally approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the year 2007 for generalized anxiety disorder.
The generic Cymbalta has taken up the place as a top selling prescriptive drug in the USA and around the world today. Eli Lilly has been highly benefitted by the sales of Cymbalta. The company is looking forward for further increase in the sales of the drug in the upcoming years.
